What does art mean to you?

Art is a way to express myself whether that be via photography or poetry. It’s a therapeutic outlet for me to express my inner most feelings. It has always been easier for me to put my feelings in words than to say them out loud.

Why do you think it is important to create?

I wrote my first piece of poetry in the first grade with my mother. The poem was called The Color of Me. Art gives us the platform we desperately need as women of color. We’re often silenced and our art gives a voice to the voiceless.

What or who keeps you inspired?

My lover, Ron, inspires me to be a better person each and every day. Also, my followers! They are absolutely amazing.

What has been your proudest moment as an artist/creative?

When I did a shoot for WeTheUrban magazine in 2014. That has been the highlight of my career. It was the first time I did something was published.

How do you define love?

Love is letting someone share a part of your heart and trusting them with it unconditionally.

What is the space that you like to create in?

I like to go to this hippy tea house in Chapel Hill and sip tea and write poetry. It’s such a great environment.

What do you like to listen to while you create?

I have this alternative r&b playlist that I made on Spotify. It’s absolutely everything.

What do you do with art that you aren’t particularly fond of?

Delete it with a quickness! Haha

How do you make time to create?

Whenever I feel particularly moved by something or someone, I stop what I’m doing and write.

What’s your earliest memory of making art?

I wrote my first piece of poetry in the first grade with my mother. The poem was called The Color of Me.

Do you have any words of advice for young artist/creators out there?

STAY encouraged. I didn’t get to where I am now without constantly seeing the glass as half full.

Linea, thank you for keeping us #woke with your words. Your influence is endless and we look forward to what’s to come with @strangefruitboutique.
