My primary tools are my hands bc I use them to do energy healing, to create all of my medicine and then I use my hands again to put intention and love energy in my products. Also plants, essential oils, herbs, water, coconut oil are my most valued resources.

:: IDENTIFIES AS

Mexican Witchy Womxn

As a womxn, why do you think it is important to create?

Yes bc we need outlets to share and spread our love. I believe that everyone is out here on earth to give and receive love so I ask myself a lot how am/can I show/give my love and also how am I receiving it or how do I want to receive it? So this expression of our love is more than important it’s necessary, it feeds us, gives us life and does the same for others.

What has been your proudest moment as an artist/creative?

My proudest moments are when someone tells me that they slept through the night or that their pain was lessened so much or that they were able to smile that day after using my medicine or after a healing.

How do you define love?

Oh shit! Well, I would say that love is an expression and feeling. I define love as everyone’s life purpose and goal. Because we are here to love and be loved. What’s so amazing is that we can show and express our love infinitly and in infinite ways. In our cooking, words, touch, gaze, art, etc.

How do you make time to create?

While my kids are sleeping and because I am given so much creative energy naturally and it has to get out. I am also a master strategizer so I can juggle cooking dinner with making tinctures and salves and changing diapers.

How would you describe the space that you create in?

My space is sometimes serine and sometimes chaotic bc I have 3 little angels who at anytime could be helping me make and create potions or who could be running around me screaming and pooping while I’m making magic. Either way I’m blessed to be able to do what I do.

How do you define art?

 I don’t think I can define art.

How does your mental health affect your work?

I only make medicine when I’m feeling positive and loved. If I am feeling down and need to make medicine ASAP I pray, I do energy healing on myself and on my medicine for the person I’m making it for. I only want to produce love so I make sure I’m good before. So making products for others actually also helps me so much feel love and happiness. It keeps me going. Even when I have no paying orders I’m still making medicine and trolling the internet and friends to find people that need medicine so that I can give it to them for free. This is how I show my love.

What words of advice do you have for young womxn/artists/creators out there?

I would say create from and for love.

What could you not live without?

My intention and my hands

Who are your influences/inspirations?

My inspirations are my daughter, my mom, and then marginalized groups of people, specifically womxn of color, disabled and low income folx.

My daughter was born with a hole in her heart and she kicked my healing abilities into hyperspace and threw me into a magical world of energy healing. I started taking lots of classes and learning healing modalities in order to help her but really she gave me these gifts so that I could also heal myself and others. My mom has chronic pain and too many ailments to mention and because of her I have really dived into using herbs and specifically cannabis to help her and in turn help lots of other people in the community who are low income and in physical and mental pain.

What message do you want to spread with your art?

Love and healing.

What does self-love mean to you?

For me it means being conscious of self. Because for me I take care of 3 kids usually by myself so even taking a minute to go to the bathroom means that I put 3 others on hold to make a minute for myself and that can be very hard sometimes.

What are some of your current or long-term goals?

Current goal is to make a zine with cannabis recipes. I also want to make another moon cycle tracker for next year. I have so many medicine recipe ideas I want to make. I want to draw more. I want to attune more people to Reiki. I want to create and Reiki attunement and healing magic workshop. I’ve done Reiki workshops but I want to create one that really shows hands on methods of doing all types of healings specific to brown cultures.

What do you think is missing in the world of womxn and art?

 Proper Representation and exposure.

How does your identity and the way you identify in the world affect your work?

It does make me focus more on brown and black people and wanting to help them. It also makes me conscious of the planet, using healthy and safe ingredients, native healing practices and herbs and traditions.
