Black Woman

As a womxn, why do you think it is important to create?

Being a Black Woman in a Male dominated field such as Music, it is very important to create/express yourself in the most honest way you can and/or know how. For many years Women were to be Seen and not Heard, the time is now to create and do it loud and proud, it’s a New Day.

What has been your proudest moment as an artist/creative?

Finally finishing my Album, and people loving and sharing it with other people, and those people loving it as well and everyones ‘favorite’ song is a different song from the next person. It feels good to create something from your heart/personal experiences and people relate to it, lets you know you’re not alone on this journey called Life. ¬†Erykah Badu said it best, ‘Now keep in mind I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit’ and thats Facts! LOL.

How do you define love?

GOD… God will never Leave you, Fail you, nor Forsake you no matter what! God is there for you at your Lowest and there for you at your Highest. Humans try hard to Love like GOD but its impossible.

How do you make time to create?

I have a very demanding ‘9 to 5’ Job currently and the commute is ridiculous so I choose to wake up early and go sleep late to have time to create.

How does your mental health affect your work?

Mental health is very important, you have to be healthy mentally to perform physically. I choose to stop eating meat, cut back on junk food and exercise more to help keep my mind right, it has helped tremendously.

What is your earliest memory of making art?

When I was 6 years old I made a dress for my Barbie out of my ruffle trim socks, my Mom was pissed lol. Fashion was my first Love before music and I want on to get 3 college degrees in that field but later found out that Fashion was everything to me because I was fascinated by music videos and had a love for music lol.

What social issues do you care about most?

Police Brutality and Homelessness. Police are still killing Black People for no reason and theres a housing crisis going on in the Bay Area that needs special attention.

What could you not live without?

Food! Lol I’m a Foodie that doesn’t like to cook but I know how to cook.

Who are your influences/inspirations?

Being from the Bay Area, I grew up listening to ‘The Click’ and watching/listening to Suga-T (a member of The Click) was super inspirational. Seeing a Woman keep up with the guys was really awesome, from there I was inspired by; Eve, Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Left Eye, Missy, Erykah Badu and many more talented Women. I am also inspired by some Male artist as well, such as; J.Cole, Kanye West, DMX, Red & Method Man just to name a few.

What message do you want to spread with your art?

Tell your Truth, unapologetically.

What does self-love mean to you?

Loving you for you. Flaws and all.
