Woman of the world

As a womxn, why do you think it is important to create?

Throughout history, women could rarely express themselves through art, the medium in which I work and in which I am focusing to speak. Now, thank God, is no longer the case. And women are becoming more open to the world, without fear, with freedom. Creating is that. Show your heart, your soul, your mind. Openly, without fear of being judged.

What has been your proudest moment as an artist/creative?

When I started to draw what I really wanted to draw for the first time; when I first drew my “yarned” characters. Those yarns are nothing more than those who hid me from the world.

What do you like to listen to while you create?

Depends on the day. The Smiths, Perfume Genius, The Dø, Radiohead, Saint Vincent, Benjamin Clementine, Diego El Cigala, Tchaikovsky, Father John Misty, Devendra Banhart, Nina Simone,…. Etc, etc, etc…

What is your earliest memory of making art?

Very small. My mother and grandfather were artists, and I do not remember an episode of my life without drawing.

Do you have any words of advice for young womxn/artist/creators out there?

Work. Create every day. Look for inspiration in everything. Mainly seek inspiration in yourself, in your feelings. Search within yourself what you want to tell the world and do it. Do it from your bowels. With all the passion you’re capable of.

What social issues do you care about most?

Abused children and animals. I do not understand harming beings as helpless and capable of so much love.

How does your mental health affect your work?

A lot. It usually affects me a lot. And being sad or lost has helped me a lot to create characters with whom I have identified myself the most.

What message do you want to spread with your art?

The strength and weakness of the woman. All we hide under our own threads/yarns, but how we have to accept them and get rid of them. Start to bloom. We are all blooming women.

Claudia, your yarned womxn are #fearless and #free. Thank you for creating so openly and illustrating the strength as well as the vulnerabilities that make us human. You inspire us to start and never stop blooming.
