5 Podcasts By Womxn to Get You in the Creative Zone

The number of people listening to podcasts has been growing for years and in 2014, the podcast, “Serial” had more than 110 million downloads.

According to this New York Times article,  57 million Americans listen to podcasts each month. That’s almost the entire population of Italy. Almost every week it seems that a new podcast has climbed the charts and taken the #1 spot. With so many new podcasts on the scene, it can be hard to sift through them to find the gems.

So we went ahead and picked out 5 dope podcasts that are worth checking out. We love podcasts that are produced by and feature badass womxn. Tune in while you’re making dinner, going for a walk, driving to work, or best yet… making some art.

  1. 2 Dope Queens

2 Dope Queens is a dope ass podcast that features Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson. We LOVE this podcast and in some ways, listening to these womxn on our ways to work helped inspire us to start One Million Wild Hearts. Each episode features a fresh new batch of comedians. The shows are filmed in front of live audiences and we love how the queens work together.

Our favorite episode is a tie between #1: Dad Bods or #10: We Got Some Feedback.

  1. Reversal of the Muse

Reversal of the Muse is a brilliant new podcast hosted by the angelic Laura Marling. Besides being an incredible musician (here is one of my favorite live videos of her) she is so smart. We love this podcast because it profiles badass females making waves in the music industry. Laura asks real questions and she gets real answers. We are also big fans of the name “Reversal of the Muse.” Nice job, Laura.

This beautiful podcast is hosted by the one and only Phoebe Robinson. The show is produced by Ilana Glazer, from Broad City. Phoebe keeps it fresh and invites people to talk about sex, relationships, work, and comedy.

Dear Phoebe, thank you for creating a podcast that is not dominated by a white male narrative.

Our favorite episode is #8: “Phoebe and Roxane Gay Toast to the Good Life.”

*The inspiration for this blog post came from our interviews with Wild Hearts. Many of the artists we talk to tell us that they love listening to podcasts while they are creating. So if you’re looking for something to listen to to get in the zone, we hope these help get you going. Comment and let us know what you thought of these and if we missed any!
